Making Music, formerly the National Federation of Music Societies (founded in 1935), is the largest association of amateur music makers and promoters in the UK.

Nationally, Making Music represents over 1,800 member organisations, made up of choirs, choral societies, orchestras, music festivals and music promoting clubs, as well as steel bands, folk groups, gospel choirs, barber shop groups, handbell ringers, guitar ensembles, jazz bands, latin-american goups and the like. Making Music provides a wide range of artistic and administrative services and training opportunities for members, as well as lobbying and advocacy for the voluntary music making sector. The insurance cover provided for member organisations is a valued benefit.

Making Music Yorkshire, which serves Yorkshire and the Humber, is one of thirteen committees throughout the UK which provide the link between Making Music and local members.

Making Music Yorkshire supports the 150 or so Making Music members in Yorkshire and the Humber. The local Committee, under the Chairmanship of Roy Carr, is run by dedicated volunteers and meets several times per year. The Committee is assisted by Stuart Isaac, our professional Regional Development Officer.
